Lake Tahoe is located high in the Sierra Nevada on the border with Nevada. The clear blue water, granite bays, mountain forests and numerous viewpoints make the lake attractive all year round.

Practical tips
Reserve in the summer very early.
Drive the narrow Westuferstrasse with a big team only after careful testing.
Chains and roadblocks are possible in winter.
Protect the lake from invasive species and observe boat rules.

Lake Tahoe is the perfect finale of the California chapter. Two to three nights allow Emerald Bay, Sand Harbor and a mountain hike without constant onward travel.
