San Diego combines wide Pacific beaches, a mild climate and relaxed neighborhoods with one of California's most pleasant big city atmospheres. Balboa Park, the historic old town and coastal towns can be easily distributed over several days.

The stop can be easily integrated into the proposed round trip and offers a clear contrast to the previous stage.

The large city park combines gardens, museums, Spanish-influenced architecture and the famous San Diego Zoo.

Coronado offers a long sandy beach and the historic Hotel del Coronado; Old Town is reminiscent of the city's Mexican-California roots.

For larger purchases, Mission Valley and the shopping centers along Interstate 8 are suitable.Small shops and markets can be found in Little Italy, Old Town and Gaslamp Quarter.

Mexican cuisine is popular with Las Cuatro Milpas and the Taco shops in Barrio Logan. Little Italy offers a wide range of cafés, pizzerias and modern restaurants.

Leave the camper at the campsite and use tram, bus or a separate vehicle.

Plan La Jolla early in the morning before parking is scarce.

On weekends, the beaches and Balboa Park are particularly well visited.

San Diego is the ideal start for the California tour: relaxed, varied and logistically much easier than Los Angeles. Plan at least three nights.
