Why go
Big Sur stands for the most dramatic coastal landscape in California: steep cliffs, Redwood gorges, waterfalls and Highway 1 just above the Pacific. The route is a highlight but requires careful planning with large vehicles.
The stop can be easily integrated into the proposed round trip and offers a clear contrast to the previous stage.

Along Big Sur, fuel and food are expensive and only limited available. Purchase in advance in Cambria, Morro Bay, Monterey or Carmel.

Our recommendation
Big Sur earns at least two days. Do not just drive the route through, but spend the night between coast and Redwoods. In case of lockdowns, the route must be adjusted spaciously.
