Thousand Springs State Park
Between Twin Falls and Boise, hundreds of crystal clear springs spring along the steep basalt cliffs of the Snake River. The water emerges directly from the rock walls and forms numerous waterfalls flowing into the Snake River. Especially worth seeing are Ritter Island, Niagara Springs and Malad Gorge.

Most travellers pass by on Interstate 84. However, a small detour is definitely worth it.
Hells Canyon
On the border between Idaho and Oregon is the deepest river gorge in North America. With over 2,400 metres of altitude difference it even exceeds the Grand Canyon. In addition to spectacular viewpoints you can expect boat tours, hiking trails and excellent wildlife watching opportunities.
RV tip
The driveway is partly winding. Larger Fifth Wheels you can better stand on a campground and explore the canyon with the pickup truck.
Bruneau Dunes State Park
In the middle of Idaho rises the highest freestanding sand dunes in North America. The landscape resembles a desert rather than the Rocky Mountains and is ideal for hiking, sandboarding or unforgettable sunsets.

Shortly before sunset, beautiful light and shadow games are created on the dunes.
Mesa Falls
The Upper and Lower Mesa Falls are among the most beautiful waterfalls in Idaho. Over well-developed wooden bridges you reach several viewpoints with impressive views of the roaring waters.
Priest Lake
In the north of Idaho is one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in the state. The crystal clear water, dense forests and numerous bays make it a paradise for kayakers, anglers and campers.
Kirkham Hot Springs
Directly on the Payette River there are several natural thermal pools under small waterfalls. Especially in the early morning or during the week you can enjoy the hot springs in a quiet atmosphere.
Silverwood Theme Park
The largest amusement park in the northwest of the USA offers roller coasters, a large water park and numerous attractions for families. It is ideal as a change from many nature experiences.
Scenic Drives
Ponderosa Pine Scenic Byway
This varied panoramic road leads through dense pine forests, past rivers, lakes and small mountain villages. Especially in autumn the golden yellow forests provide impressive landscapes.
Salmon River Scenic Byway
One of the most beautiful roads in Idaho follows the famous Salmon River for many kilometers. Deep gorges, steep rock walls and numerous viewpoints make it an experience.
Mesa Falls Scenic Byway
This short panoramic road connects the Mesa Falls with the Yellowstone area and leads through quiet forests and open mountain landscapes.
International Selkirk Loop
A unique circular route through Idaho, Washington and British Columbia. Forests, lakes and small towns provide a very varied ride.
RV tip
Many of these places are ideal as a stopover between the main destinations. Plan enough time, because often from a short break quickly become several hours.

Just along the Scenic Byways it is worth stopping spontaneously at viewpoints or small picnic spots. The most beautiful impressions often arise away from the well-known sights.

If your schedule allows, plan one to two extra days for these places. Although they are not among the most famous destinations in Idaho, they often make a round trip really varied. Many are just a few kilometers from the main route and reward you with impressive landscapes, significantly fewer visitors and unforgettable experiences.
