Why go
Spearfish Canyon is one of the most beautiful and at the same time underrated landscapes in Black Hills. The 35-kilometre long panoramic road winds through a canyon that is up to 300 metres deep, past steep limestone rocks, dense forests, roaring waterfalls and clear mountain streams.
While many visitors drive directly to Mount Rushmore or Deadwood, there is much less time for this scenically exceptional region. Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway is considered one of the most beautiful streets in South Dakota by locals – especially in autumn when forests turn into bright golden, orange and red tones.
Whether a leisurely panoramic ride, short hiking tours or waterfalls – Spearfish Canyon is perfect for a relaxing day trip.
